Celebreting a Transformative Journey in Alzheimer’s Care
This June, as we observe Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, Senior Lifestyle commemorates a significant milestone - a decade-long partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association. This collaboration not only highlights their dedication to improving memory care but also showcases remarkable fundraising achievements, having raised over $600,000 since 2015 through initiatives like The Longest Day. In 2024 alone, contributions have already exceeded $105,000, with nearly $70,000 raised this year as events continue to unfold throughout June.
Innovating Memory Care: The Embrace Program
At the heart of Senior Lifestyle’s mission is Embrace, their award-winning memory care program. Rooted in the understanding that fading memories necessitate increasing value in meaningful connections, Embrace leverages a research-informed approach. By integrating cognitive stimulation, emotional connections, and sensory therapies, it aims to minimize the reliance on medications while establishing enriching experiences for residents.
Brittany Coleman, Divisional Director of Memory Care, emphasizes that "Embrace was created to bring a higher standard of memory care to every community we serve." This comprehensive program enables care teams to deliver personalized, compassionate support tailored to the individual needs of each resident and their families.
Introducing Essence: A Holistic Touch
One standout feature of Embrace is the Essence program, renowned for its innovative sensory-based experiences. Using aromatherapy combined with soothing visuals and sound, Essence creates a relaxing environment that not only promotes comfort but also dampens distress. This program was recognized with the Argentum’s 2017 Best of the Best Award, showcasing its impact on memory care.
Pioneering this initiative is Dr. Jennifer Stelter, a celebrated dementia care expert known as The Oil Doctor. By partnering with Senior Lifestyle, Dr. Stelter trains caregivers in integrating essential oils safely into daily routines, enhancing the quality of life for residents. She elaborates on the profound effects of these natural remedies, stating, "Intentional integration of essential oils into dementia care significantly enhances quality of life, fostering greater independence and improving mood while reducing behavioral challenges."
Continuing the Fight Against Alzheimer's
Senior Lifestyle's commitment extends beyond individual care to community engagement. Throughout June, they’re actively involved in fundraising activities for The Longest Day, uniting residents, families, and team members in support of those impacted by Alzheimer’s disease. By participating in these initiatives, they foster awareness and camaraderie, making strides towards a shared goal of improving memory care.
